Amazing food from start to finish, and the service was impeccable. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. The biscuits are a must-have.
Why is there only 3.5 stars on this. The food is to die for. The service is mediocre, especially for the price, but that's the only knock against the restaurant. Compared to other fine dining that's unacceptable I guess but the Chef here is amazing. The rabbit and beef belly is a must.
Delectable food; I had the fish special. We saved the biscuits for last and they were light, fluffy, and absolutely scrumptious. Service was excellent and the cocktails were pretty amazing too.
Delicious, as usual! My partner's parents were in town so we took them to Olamaie. Everything was exquisite and the service was great. I can't sing praises enough for this restaurant, truly! We Ubered so that we wouldn't have to deal with parking, which was a good idea. We showed up on time for our reservation, and they seated us immediately. Throughout the meal, our server checked on us consistently and made sure we were taken care of. 100/10!
I am still having dreams about our incredible dinner at Olamaie! We enjoyed our meal at the bar and received the most exceptional service from their team. We followed all their recommendations for their favorite dishes and each one was such a well-crafted and gorgeous presentation of Southern farm to table. It almost feels like you're having a dinner party in someone's beautiful home because the ambiance is so warm, welcoming, and cozy. This needs to be at the top of your list for future date nights in Austin!
I was fortunate to have a beautiful meal at Olamaie. The restaurant itself is an unassuming little house on a regular looking corner in Austin. If you weren't looking closely you would miss it The food, however, is not to be missed. I started with the Tawdry Hepburn, which I can say is one of the best drinks I've ever had. It's sweet and balanced and pineappley and delicious. That was followed up with a beef tartar. The tartar had bread and butter beets mixed in with the beef which was a really lovely and surprising bite. I had the dayboat fish over rice, which was Red Snapper that day. It was served blackened, and was absolutely beautifully prepared if a tad salty. The rice was more like a risotto that what I was expecting. As a risotto lover it was a happy surprise! The rice was topped with a blue crab sauce that was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. Dont forget to have a biscuit with your meal! The meal ended with the hummingbird cake. It was more icing than cake, but delicious nonetheless. The service was good, if a bit overly-solicitous. You can tell the people who work here really care about the food and your dining experience. I also happened to notice one of the employees signing to a deaf diner, and I really appreciated seeing someone go that far to make someone feel included in the experience
Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5 We went to Olamaie as a party of four to celebrate a friend's revolution around the sun. None of us had ever been and the anticipation was making our mouths drool for the week leading up to it. Studying the menu online will make you gleek! Study with caution! The home of Olamaie appears to be just that- a lovely, welcoming, and warm home. I had a drink at the bar as I waited for the rest of my party to arrive. It was dimly lit and clean with a small cocktail menu. My party arrived and we were immediately seated. Our server was so knowledgeable, warm, and genuine. He made the experience educational and unpretentious. He guided us through the menu and ordering quantity and was spot on with his suggestions. I am not a hushpuppies fan until having the blue corn hushpuppies at Olamaie. I've seen the light but also may be ruined forever. They are sooooo good! As are the biscuits. I could cry. We really enjoyed all of the appetizers and the salads. The entrees were also fantastic. LOVE THE PORK CHOP! The only inkling of disappointment experienced was that the duck came with more boudin than duck. While it was tasty, and I may have overlooked, I didn't recall boudin listed in the dish. So the fact that it overwhelmed the plate, was surprising. Even surprised by a bonus ingredient, we loved everything! I'll be back the next time I have a hankering for upscale southern culinary genius! I dream of blue hushpuppies!
What a quaint house, the location of Olamaie! It's warm and inviting. We were excited for an innovative meal, and for the most part it was. The hang-up for us was the amount of salt that the two main entrees we ordered had. They were overly salty, especially the vegetarian gumbo. The fish of the day, snapper, had a little less salt, but still more than necessary. The dishes were well designed otherwise. Two things to note: - there is a lotttt of butter used in the restaurant, even though it's more modern then traditional. - there are no modifications accommodated, for those that like to ask to modify. None were allowed, even small or simple ones.
Two words for you: pork chop. If you go to Olamaie and you don't order the pork chop then you have just made the biggest culinary mistake of your life...Look Olamaie is pricey. Four of us dined here and we had three appetizers, two entrees, two deserts and two round of drinks between us and we dropped close to $600. But the food is spectacular and the service is exceptional. Don't miss the biscuits. Don't miss their take on an Old Fashioned. Don't miss the butter beans... And did I mention the pork chop??
